VOLVO S60 T6 PETROL SEDAN IN ICB’S COMPREHENSIVE ROAD TEST AND REVIEW!

Sunday, 8 January 2012

Staid or even boring are words you would associate with Volvo’s range of super safe cars that are built like vaults and well, look like vaults too. But wait, all that and plenty more has changed with the saucy new Volvo S60 Sedan, that got us more gawks and glances that an equivalent Beemer or Audi would’ve ever managed. Along the way, Volvo also managed to throw in a smoothie of a twin turbo, straight six petrol engine that would make whipped cream seem rough even as powering ahead of the world was as effortless as one-two-three with the twin turbos singing their whooshy symphony. So, what is it about the Volvo S60 T6 Petrol Sedan that made folks going about doing their household chores stop and simply gawk? We just put the Volvo S60 through 1,000 kilometers of twin turbo fun to answer just that!

Vibrant copper is what Volvo calls the S60 sedan’s orange paint shade as, and as a matter of fact, this color coupled to the coupeish roof line of the Volvo S60 was what got us the gawks and the glances from a lot of people who were quite excited to see a sporty looking car with the badge that is known more in India for it’s range of luxury buses.

The design looks taut from every conceivable angle and there is a certain aggression that has transmorphed the usually staid image of the Volvo to something much more sportier than it’s competitors like the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4. Throw in the Indian monsoons into the equation, that has turned the entire western ghats into a verdant shade of green with pleasant weather to boot, driving along with the the sun roof open is epic stuff.

Viewed from straight upfront, the wide snout of the car is perhaps the only garish bit in the entire package which otherwise looks very sporty all throughout. The garishness though, is well masked by the Volvo logo emblazoned diagonally across the front grille.  The long sculpted bonnet’s adds a bit of character to the front end of the Volvo S60 even as the projector based headlamps coupled to a unique fog lamp design give the car a stance that is very different to what most cars feature.
